Celebrating the Accentuated Virtues of Desert Living
The Coachella Valley lies within the Colorado Desert, an arid rift valley. Bounded by mountain ranges, it was once covered by an inland sea. The San Andreas Fault runs along the valley's east side, creating hot springs. These natural water sources allowed habitation and development in the harsh desert. The desert hosts diverse flora and fauna, including the endangered California Fan Palm, supported by water sources forming oases.
The master plan emphasizes solutions tailored to the site, celebrating water's role in the desert while respecting natural landscapes. Topography and water movement are key, with minimal grading. The plan showcases the desert's adaptability, aiming to engage and uplift visitors.
Linear open spaces between developed areas and hills serve as habitats: palm canyons, shadow creeks, and freshwater areas, inspired by native environments. These spaces become lush community areas, contrasting with dry hillsides. They offer active and passive uses, benefiting from natural irrigation and cooler air.
The park offers diverse recreational and social activities within both natural and manufactured landscapes, including sports fields, walking trails, a central promenade, picnic areas, play zones, an amphitheater, and flexible event spaces. Desert Engagement Areas include native landscapes, thematic gardens, and dry creeks, providing opportunities for exploration and education.
Fiesta de Vida Park celebrates desert life, providing a venue for community events and recreation, highlighting the valley's unique virtues.
